CARRIE Motion Poster

A new motion poster for Carrie, Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Brian De Palma’s 1976 Stephen King adaptation, has been released online. The film stars Chloe Grace Moretz taking over the iconic role of sheltered telekinetic Carrie. Julianne Moore plays Carrie’s overprotective mother.

Here’s the synopsis for Carrie

"The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine, is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter, Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc."

Spike Jonze’s HER Added Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt

Yesterday, we shared the news that Spike Jonze‘s Her starring Joaquin Phoenix gets a release date, but it turns out that two more famous thesps are in Jonze’s ‘Siri-ish’ romance.

According to the official Twitter page for Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio reveals two previously unrevealed cast members on the project: Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt are also listed as cast members!

Through the whole production process there was no mention of Johansson or Pratt who are both great actors with comedic background.

They join Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton, and Olivia Wilde in the upcoming quirky romance, which filmed last year and will be out November 20th, 2013.

As you might know, Theodore (Phoenix) is a lonely writer who purchases a newly developed operating system (not unlike iPhone’s Siri) designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system.

Johansson will next be seen in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon, while Zero Dark Thirty’s Pratt has got next what seems to be a scene-stealing role in Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn.

Are you excited to see Johanson and Pratt in Her?

Christopher Nolan Approached for Bond 24 ?

Christopher Nolan has been approached to direct the next 007 movie.
It’s early days, but informal talks have begun between Nolan, his representatives and the powers behind the James Bond pictures, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G .Wilson.
Nolan, who made the Batman trilogy Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises — and had time for Inception in between — would be a cool choice after Sam Mendes decided not to shoot Bond 24.
Following the amazing box-office and critical success of Skyfall, Mendes was close to saying ‘yes’ to the next instalment, but had to withdraw because of his theatre commitments Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear with Simon Russell Beale at the National Theatre.
Also, a lot of unconfirmed chatter has started about Mendes running the National Theatre once Sir Nicholas Hytner steps down in March 2015 after a glorious decade at the helm of the theatrical powerhouse on the South Bank.
There are all sorts of reasons why Nolan might not want to do the next Bond film, though he is known to be an admirer of Bond star Daniel Craig.
For starters, he’s in pre-production of his own next big film, Interstellar, with Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, and he might prefer not to go straight from one huge production into another.
But as one of my Bond experts commented: ‘It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round.’
Mendes told me that there would be at least a year to 18 months of pre-production preparation and then six months of filming involved in Bond 24, and the producers want to shoot the follow-up soon after.

Scarlett Johansson To Direct Her First Feature SUMMER CROSSING

Set in New York just after WWII, Truman Capote‘s reflective portrayal of a wealthy 17-year-old ‘Summer Crossing’ is one of the books that made a difference to Scarlett Johansson. She loves Capote’s first novel so much that she will adapt his near-lost novel.

The film is Johansson’s feature-length directorial debut (she has previously directed a short, These Vagabond Shoes, starring Kevin Bacon).

Penned in the 1940s, ‘Summer Crossing’ was lost for more than 50 years before being rescued and rediscovered at an auction in 2004.

The project was announced as her directorial debut nearly two years ago.

Johansson said in a statement:

"Several years ago I began working alongside the Capote estate and writer Tristine Skylar to adapt ‘Summer Crossing,’ an inspired early work of Truman’s which has long captured my heart. Being able to bring this story to the screen as my full-length directorial debut is a life dream and deep privilege."Production is set for early 2014. Sin City 2 producer Oleg Boyko will finance Summer Crossing.

Meanwhile, Johansson is quite busy these days, shooting Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and has Luc Besson’s Lucy and Jon Favreau’s Chef lined up.

Here’s a novel synopsis:

"A 17-year-old debutant opts out of her parents’ Parisian travels to foster a romance with a Jewish valet parking attendant in the middle of a 1945 summer NYC heat wave."

Watch the New Trailer for Riddick!

A teaser for the Riddick trailer came online back in March, but now the full trailer is available and you can check it out below! You can also view the new poster and photos in the gallery.

Opening in theaters and IMAX on September 6, the David Twohy film stars Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson.

In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

5 MARVEL SUPERHEROES THE ROCK COULD PLAY IN A FILM

Finally… Marvel Studios want The Rock in a movie. Fans have begged for pro-wrestlers to get involved in the Marvel superhero movie factory and now the biggest superhero company seems to be on board.

Ken Feige had this to say about The Rock in a Marvel film…

“His name has come up in the past. I’m a gigantic fan of his. I think he`s incredible. I might have met him once a long time ago, but I haven`t really met him. I don`t really know him, but I think he`s an unbelievable personality and an unbelievable sort of force of nature. He`s awesome in `Pain & Gain`. He was great in `G.I. Joe`. He`s really kind of an amazing human being. His Twitter`s always cool and he promotes the hell out of everything he does. I would love him to be part of the Marvel universe somewhere, someday."

There’s an endless list of comic characters that The Rock would be well suited to play on the big screen. Here are our top five choices.

1 - Namor the Submariner

Much like The Hulk, Namor has been on both sides of The Avengers. Sometimes he's a babyface, sometimes he's a heel. The Rock could slide right in, and play the villain of 'The Avengers 2', but then return as an ally for the third film.

This is the kind of character who The Rock could inject new life into, and a solo film franchise would be a must.

We're surprised Namor hasn't hit the big screen yet, but perhaps Marvel was waiting for an actor with the mainstream appeal of The Rock. A Marvel film with special effects to look like Atlantis could be monumental.

2 - Goliath

You could probably call Goliath a "C" character when it comes to members of The Avengers. His biggest claim to fame was dying during Marvel's Civil War, which pit all the superheroes against one another, lead separately by Iron Man and Captain America.

Goliath's ability to grow huge isn't far off from The Rock's own ability, but it takes far less meals for Goliath to pull of the feat.

We doubt Goliath would be worth a movie franchise of his own, but he could be "The one who dies" in 'The Avengers 2'. The Rock is a bit bigger of a movie name to kill off than Clark Gregg/Agent Coulson.

 3 - Hercules

Hercules isn't the most interesting character that Marvel has, but The Rock could easily play the brute in an ensemble superhero film.

Hercules in Marvel comics is exactly the same as Hercules in every other form of literature. The best part about Herc is how he speaks in a wacky old-timey English dialect, and we'd love to see Duane Johnson trying not to do that in a laughable manner.

Rock is already built like the half-son of a Greek God, so it's not much of a stretch that he could fit the role, but I do question Rock's ability to grow a beard. You can't play Hercules without a beard, but perhaps a funny fake beard would compliment the goofy accent.

4 - Black Bolt

Black Bolt's voice is more powerful than all of the other superheros on this list combined. It's so powerful that he can't even speak to his normal friends, and thus, The Rock would have the easiest time collecting a paycheck ever. He probably wouldn't pull an ab or anything.

Instead of an Avengers film, The Rock could play Black Bolt in an Illuminati crossover film. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, The Rock as Black Bolt and Namor (one masked, one obviously not), and then you only have to fill-out a few more roster spots (Dr. Strange, Black Panther).

Black Bolt is one of those characters we've always wanted to see on the big screen, but he's not exactly the most premiere choice for a new Superhero franchise. The Rock could get it over, even without talking, though.

5 - Moon Knight

Moon Knight is a boxer turned Marine turned mercenary turned rich guy turned superhero. The story isn't simple, but it's made for film.

The Moon Knight could easily be Marvel's newest Batman, if The Rock was in the role. It would take some serious range on the part of Duane, as Moon Knight is an insane person.

The best thing about a Moon Knight movie would be that the majority of non-comic book fans are unaware of his origin, unlike Spiderman, which we've seen done numerous times in movies and cartoons.

The Rock could take Moon Knight into a top tier character with his own personal popularity, and a fun story.

What Marvel character should The Rock play? Got some suggestions of your own? Leave them in the comments.

RIO 2 First Teaser Trailer

Back to the party with the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Rio 2! Time for all of us to take a much better look at Blu, Jewel and the rest of the dance team, ’cause one thing is for sure – these cuties definitely know how to have fun! Check them out & let us know what you think…

Director Carlos Saldanha stands behind the sequel to the 2011 computer-animated film Rio, which grossed over $143 million in the United States and $484 million worldwide!

As you probably remember, in Rio 2 it’s (again) all about Blu, voiced by Jesse Eisenberg and Jewel, voiced by Anne Hathaway, and their three kids.

Mark Ruffalo Says Not To Panic About Avengers 2 Negotiations

With Iron Man 3 already an unquestionable hit, Marvel Enterprises is facing a not so surprising foe for continuing their franchise: demands from their stars. Earlier this month reports arose that contract negotiations for Avengers 2 were getting heated, with Robert Downey Jr. leading the charge, demanding more money from a franchise he and his co-stars helped make a phenomenon. At the time, Deadline's item on the report suggested this could cause a shakeup in casting, citing Mark Ruffalo as "the most vulnerable" considering he's the third actor to play the Hulk in this movie series.

Thankfully, Moviefone spoke to Ruffalo as he did press rounds for his upcoming thriller Now You See Me, and he urged all of Marvel fandom to calm down. Ironic considering the temperamental character he perfectly played last year, but it's fitting for the actor who seems to take every step of his evolving career in stride. Asked if he was coming back for The Avengers 2, Ruffalo said:

"I assume so. I haven't been let go yet. ..I'm signed for -- oh my gosh -- six movies altogether. Five now [after The Avengers]."

He went on to say this is the first he's heard of conflict over negotiations, adding," I don't even think anyone's really started negotiating yet." Asked specifically if there's any reason to panic, Ruffalo responded with a laugh, "No. Maybe people should panic, but I don't see a reason to panic."

So, deep breaths everyone. If Ruffalo's right, negotiations are still in the early stages. And while Downey has been pretty public about his willingness to walk away from the franchise, Marvel has been handling their evolving movie-verse with an insanely impressive aplomb. So, have faith.

In the meantime, it's interesting that Ruffalo has signed on for six Marvel movies. (Slight spoiler for Iron Man 3 ahead.) Aside from Avengers 2, where else might Marvel be playing to place him? Considering his count, he's not including his brief cameo in Iron Man 3 as one of his contractual appearances. So, where else might he pop up? Thor: The Dark World? Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Or maybe a spin-off of his own? As we can't get enough of Ruffalo's Hulk, we'd be thrilled for all three

Arnold Schwarzenegger In Talks For TOXIC AVENGER Remake

Arnold Schwarzenegger In Talks For TOXIC Yes, this is the real deal. He won't be playing Toxie himself, but according to reliable reports the Governator is in negotiations for another lead role in the upcoming remake of the cult classic.

not as the hideous hero himself. -- it seems he’s in negotiations for another lead role in the reboot of the crazy '80s flick. Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink has been attached to the project since 2010, but we haven't heard much else about it until now. For those not in the know, The Toxic Avenger was a 1984 low budget flick from Troma Studios, about a mop-wielding radioactive superhero who deals out violent justice to a bunch of polluters in Jersey. The movie spawned 3 sequels, a kid's cartoon series. and various comic book spin-offs. John Travolta was also rumored to be up for a role a while back, but we haven't heard anything on that since.

I, FRANKENSTEIN Motion Poster Debut

Lionsgate has released the first poster for I, Frankenstein, and it happens to be a pointless motion poster. They could have just released this as a regular poster design because the fact that it moves back and forth like this does nothing special. The film is based on the graphic novel created by Kevin Grievous. Here's the synopsis...

"Set in a dystopic present where vigilant gargoyles and ferocious demons rage in a battle for ultimate power, Victor Frankenstein's creation Adam (Aaron Eckhart) finds himself caught in the middle as both sides race to discover the secret to his immortality."

The movie was written and directed by Stuart Beattie. It also stars Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, Socratis Otto, Mahesh Jadu, Caitlin Stasey and Aden Young as Victor Frankenstein.

I, Frankenstein is set to hit theaters on January 24th, 2014.

Samuel L. Jackson Plays U.S. President In BIG GAME

Finnish director Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale) with the capacity for emulating the feel of a polished Hollywood product will next direct his English-language debut, Big Game with Samuel L. Jackson attached to star as the president of the United States.

One of the major discoveries of the 2010 Festival del film Locarno certainly was a scary Santa flick Rare Exports. The young cinematographer will show off his talents further with the story of the ‘adrenaline-fuelled action adventure’ film that centers on a shy 13-year-old boy named Oskari who is trying to prove himself by spending a night in the woods armed with just a bow and arrow.

On the same night, Air Force One is shot down by terrorists and the boy discovers the Commander-in-Chief in an escape pod in the forest where the two in the end team up in a bid for survival.

The upcoming action movie reportedly takes on similar theme of iconic 80s films, such as E.T. and The Karate Kid, to other high-concept action classics such as Die Hard and Taken.

Production on Big Game will start in Finland and Germany this summer, expected to debut during the Marche du Film.

SLJ is currently filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Nick Fury and he is the voice of Whiplash the snail in DreamWorks’ Turbo, the animated film slated to open on July 19th, 2013.

New Featurette for the Coming-of-Age Comedy KINGS OF SUMMER

One of the must see movies of the year is a little indie film called Kings of Summer. I saw this movie up at Sundance, and I freakin' loved it! It was a very well written, acted, and directed coming-of-age comedy that you're sure to enjoy. It's ridiculously charming. A new featurette has been released that includes new footage from the film and features the cast talking about the movie and the characters they play .

"THE KINGS OF SUMMER is a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends – Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias) – who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family – whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can’t run away from."

The movie stars Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Alison Brie, and Mary Lynn Rajskub. It's set to hit theaters on May 31st. You can read our review for the film here, and watch our video review here.

First Look at NBC's Dracula With Jonathan Rhys Meyers

While we wait and see what NBC does to Hannibal (the show has not been picked up for a second season yet), the network has revealed the first images from another genre-themed series: Dracula.

It's exactly what I thought it woud look like.

A period drama starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (6 Souls), the show, per Entertainment Weekly, finds Dracula posing "as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society but secretly hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier."

Thomas Kretschmann will plan Van Helsing.  Dracula debuts this fall taking the 10pm-11pm Friday night time slot.  More pics await inside.

CHEF Adds Robert Downey Jr.

Even Hollywood megastars are sometimes eager to work on the cheap because they can accept to make profits based on the success of the film. Don’t be surprised if Jon Favreau‘s indie comedy Chef meets these requirements.

New report says Robert Downey Jr. will team up again with his Iron Man director and has joined the ensemble cast of his next project that’s being sold at Cannes next week.

Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale were previously set to headline. Favreau will star as a chef who quits his job and starts a food truck to ‘reclaim his artistic promise.’ Vergara is attached to join Favreau as his character’s ex-wife, while Boardwalk Empire actor Cannavale is in talks to also board the project as a sous-chef.

No word yet on Downey Jr.’s role. RDJ and Favreau can be currently seen in the third installment of the Iron Man franchise.

Chef (not to be confused with the movie Bradley Cooper is attached to) is set to start production in Los Angeles, July 8th, 2013.

The latest promo video for Universal Pictures’ upcoming Despicable Me 2 says that minion moments are worth paying for (let’s agree: this sounds like a joke after Al Pacino OUT – Benjamin Bratt IN news), so we definitely recommend you to check it out. Trust me, they’re cute as hell!

Directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, the sequel to the 2010 animated film Despicable Me will, beside newly added Bratt, feature the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan and Ken Jeong.

'The Great Gatsby' opened to an excellent $19.4 million yesterday, but still slightly trailed 'Iron Man 3

It’s all about glitz and iron this weekend at the domestic box office as “Iron Man 3″ in its soph sesh and opener “The Great Gatsby” lead the pack with $19.8 million and $19.4 million from Friday, respectively.

Though it’s neck-and-neck now, the gap between the two is expected to widen significantly by Sunday, with Disney-Marvel’s threequel leading by about $10 million in the high $60 million range.

That said, Warner Bros.’ “Gatsby” is wildly outperforming pre-weekend expectations that had “Iron Man 3″ pummeling it into the $30 million range through Sunday. It will exceed that estimate by about $20 million. For a film surrounded by tentpoles (Paramount bows “Star Trek Into Darkness” next week), and with a $100 million budget after incentives to recoup, this frame is a very good start.

“Iron Man 3″ will fall about 60% from its opening weekend. Actioner has cumed $232.2 million through Friday, bringing its worldwide total to more than $795.6 million. »

First Look at Paul Giamatti in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Last week some set photos emerged for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that featured what many theorized was Paul Giamatti's stunt double for the film. Today, director Marc Webb has revealed the first still of the actual Giamatti in the movie. Giamatti plays Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich aka The Rhino in the sequel and it appears they're making some changes from his appearance in the comic books. Check out the image below.

In the 2014 sequel, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Also starring Shailene Woodley, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field and Chris Cooper, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

Nicolas Cage to star in Kellie Madison's Hotel 33

Following their collaboration on the upcoming 2 Guns and Lone Survivor, Foresight Unlimited, Envision Entertainment and Emmett/Furla Films are joining forces to produce the surreal thriller Hotel 33, starring Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage. The project was announced today by Foresight CEO Mark Damon and Emmett/Furla’s Randall Emmett.

Newcomer Kellie Madison wrote the script and will direct Hotel 33, which will start production in September 2013.

The film is based on the presumed event surrounding the disappearance of 32 people on the opening night of the Grand Hotel in Williamsport, PA in 1953. While Detective Kaminsky (Cage) is investigating the event, four teenagers break into the now-abandoned hotel for a night of festivities. Things soon go awry, and Detective Kaminsky now has to turn his attentions to discovering the mysterious happenings surrounding the strange disappearance of two of the four teenagers.

Open Road Films is distributing the film theatrically in the U.S.

“This is a real-life mystery based on factual events -- a frighteningly look at the nature of evil, exploring and revealing timeless truths about the dark side of human nature, fear and the paranormal and will leave audiences shocked and captivated for years to come. It’s going to be fantastic!!!!” said Kellie Madison.

“Up-and-coming talent Kellie Madison has done a wonderful job in giving the script a seriously terrifying tone,” commented Mark Damon. “Nicolas Cage is of course one of the great actors of our time and is perfectly suited to the role of the iconic haunted detective,” he continued.

“This is now the fourth movie Nic and I have worked on together. He is not only a friend but a true talent and I cannot be more excited to be working with him again,” commented Randall Emmett.

Foresight Unlimited will handle international sales for Hotel 33, which will be produced by Randall Emmett and George Furla, and executive produced by Envision Entertainment’s Remington Chase, Stepan Martirosyan and Vitaly Grigoriants, and Foresight’s Mark Damon. Malek Akkad is also an executive producer on the film.

Robert Downey Jr. Re-teams with Jon Favreau for CHEF

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Iron Man director Jon Favreau was looking to make a new indie film called Chef. Variety is now reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is going to team back with Favreau to co-star in the film. We've seen what these two guys can do together, and it will be cool to see them work together again!

Favreau is directing the film from a script that he wrote. Favreau will play a chef who starts up "a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise and [to reclaim] his estranged family." There's no info on whom Downey Jr. is playing in the movie, but it's an ensemble cast. I'm sure he'll have a good part to play in it. Favreau had this to say in a statement,

"Setting a film in the culinary world of Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities for a character driven comedy."

I'm really happy to see Favreau making another small, character driven indie film. I recently rewatched the movie Made, that he also wrote and directed back in 2001, and that movie is still awesome. If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely take the time to check it out.

Saoirse Ronan up for Scarlet Witch Role in AVENGERS 2 ?

A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Joss Whedon was looking to include Marvel characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in The Avengers 2. These are just two of several new superheroes that he will be adding to the team. Whedon is still working on the script, and I seriously doubt that they have reached out to any actors for these roles yet, but according to a recent report at SuperHeroHype, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (The Host) is being used as Marvels "prototype" for Scarlet Witch. Here's what they had to say...

"Although Joss is still writing and probably not ready to send anything out to actors, for the two roles, they're generally looking for actors in their 20s and we've heard word that the "prototype" for their Scarlet Witch is none other than Irish actress Saoirse Ronan. Except something to note is that they're going "British" for the role rather than trying to have actors playing Eastern Europeans."

This doesn't mean that she's going to end up playing Scarlet Witch. It just means she is their inspiration behind how the character is being written and how the character will look. If this is really the case, it would make sense for the studio to eventually offer her the role when they are ready. Ronan will be about 20 years old by the time this movie goes into production. She's a solid young actress who has proved she can kick ass, so she might be a good choice in the role. As for her brother Quicksilver, the report says he is been described as being "euro" and "edgy" in the movie.

It makes a lot of sense to bring these characters into The Avengers team. After all, they joined the team way back in 1965, and Scarlet Witch has been very strong part of the team ever since.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Ronan playing Scarlet Witch? Do you think she fits the part? Who else would you like to see in the role?

3 Directors Up For PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5

Walt Disney Pictures, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Johnny Depp are ready to move forward with Pirates of the Caribbean 5 now that The Lone Ranger has been completed. The are currently in the process of hiring a director to take on the project.

A new report from Deadline reveals a short list of three directors who are up for the gig. Those directors include: Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman), Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), and Rupert Sanders (Snow White And The Huntsman). I guess that's four names technically, but one of them is a directing team.

The report says that the Kon-Tiki guys are the names coming up the most, but obviously at this point no offer has been made to any of them. I haven't seen Kon-Tiki yet, but it looks like a great movie. I think its directors could do great things with the Pirates franchise. Sanders is the only director I really know about in this group, he's a talented visual director, but for anyone that saw Snow White And The Huntsman, you know he's not very good with directing actors or storytelling.

Which of the directors named here would you like to see take on the fifth PIRATES movie?

Steinar’s epic journey across terrifyingly hostile territory gradually sees him emerge as the man his father wants him to be – the ruthless and unforgiving successor to his throne.

Chloe Moretz To Join Denzel Washington In THE EQUALIZER

We already learned that Antoine Fuqua replaced Nicolas Winding Refn and take over Columbia Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of The Equalizer with Denzel Washington set to star.

Now comes word that only sixteen years old, Chloe Moretz has been cast as the female lead for the big-screen adaptation of Michael Sloan‘s popular ’80s crime show.

Moretz will play the role of a Teri, a young prostitute, reminiscent of Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver.  The role was written for twenty-something actor, but a reading between Washington and the Kick-Ass star has yielded some very impressive results.

Since the actress has tweeted that she ‘cannot wait to start,’ this looks like it’s happening.

Sony has set The Equalizer for an April 11th, 2014 release.

Moretz has been attached to a million other projects, including Laggies, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Dark Places and Dance of the Mirlitons.

Meanwhile, the creator of the original show has made a deal to write an original novel for Thomas Dunne Books that will continue the adventures of Robert McCall (played by Washington) to be published sometime in early 2014.

More news on the film as it develops.

Zoe Saldana Explains the Wait for Avatar Sequels

Zoe Saldana is in a very unique position. She's at the front of two of the biggest science fiction franchises (Avatar, Star Trek) and hopes to repeat that success with next year's Guardians of the Galaxy. With her second Star Trek film being released this summer and production on "Guardians" beginning soon, it brings up the question once again, where are the Avatar sequels? Speaking with MTV, the actress says that she's been in touch with director James Cameron some about the scripts and he's finishing them up now.

"I know that he's sort of been removing himself from things that might distract him so that he can focus on doing the final tweaks on the scripts. He did share that he's in a very interesting and fragile place, because the story is dictating itself."

"You walk a fine line when you're the creator of the story you're going to tell, of the manipulation that you may have unconsciously of the story and the characters versus allowing the story to unfold it, because you did create such a monumental and solid platform that they're just living and breathing organisms and they're the ones that need to make their own decisions. I'm geek talking right now, but that's how intense it affects me and how I feel about amazing storytellers like James Cameron, like J.J. Abrams. They create things that are real out of unimaginable scenarios, and that is beautiful to me."

Saldana also recently confirmed a planned early 2014 start date for the filming of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3.

No release date has been set for either film, but Avatar 2 was originally targeted for a December, 2014 release and Avatar 3

Shooting has officially commenced on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the film's director, Matt Reeves, has revealed a new image from the New Orleans set. Featuring Andy Serkis in his motion capture suit, as Caeser on a horse, it would appear he's stumbled upon some humans. Check it out below!

The Trailer for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity is Here!

The first trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures' Gravity is now online and you can check it out in the player below. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star in the film written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

In the sci-fi thriller, Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Gravity hits theaters October 4.

Ben Affleck and Martin Scorsese Have Chosen Their Next Movies

Ben Affleck first sat in the director's chair for an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Gone Baby Gone, a small-scale thriller about a private investigator looking into the disappearance of a little girl in Boston. Since then his films (The Town and Argo) have each been slightly larger in scale than the one before, and it wasn't long before Affleck's name started getting rumored for some rather huge projects, most noticeably Justice League. If you've been wanting to see the actor-director branch out to bigger budget Hollywood movies, you're going to have to wait a little longer: Affleck's next film will be an adaptation of Lehane's novel Live by Night.

Affleck was first attached to the novel October of last year, after it first hit shelves, but now it's confirmed that he'll write, direct, star and produce the film for Warner Bros. According to the Amazon description of the book, Live by Night is set during the roaring '20s and tells "the riveting story of one man’s rise from Boston petty thief to the Gulf Coast’s most successful rum runner." That's pretty far in scale and tone from Justice League, and if you ask us, that's a great thing. We love that Affleck is continuing to attach himself to smart films for adults instead of just cashing in his considerable Hollywood cache for a safe, blockbuster franchise.

And in similarly interesting, but totally unrelated news, Martin Scorsese has cast Andrew Garfield in Silence, an adaptation of a Japanese novel by Shusaku Endo that the Goodfellas director has apparently been trying to get off the ground for over 20 years. On the one hand, it's kind of a bummer that it takes someone as immensely talented and respected as Martin Scorsese two decades to get a movie a green light, but on the other hand, the plot description makes it pretty obvious why this one isn't a sure bet.

Silence is about a 17th century priest from Portugal who travels to Japan to seek out his mentor who has reportedly turned his back on the Christian church. And if the subject matter doesn't scream blockbuster waiting to happen, the film will also be made mostly in Japanese. All of those things have us excited -- hell, Silence had us at Socrsese -- but it's understandable why no studio has wanted to pull the trigger on an American-made movie about a Portugese priest who has a crisis of faith in Japan in the 1600s.

Someone is taking that leap, though, as Variety is reporting that Scorsese has not only landed financing for the film, but is set to start filming it in June of 2014. Andrew Garfield will be playing the mentor-seeking priest, while Ken Watanabe will be playing his Japanese translator.

Could John Carpenter Adapt a DEAD SPACE Movie?

Horror movie legend John Carpenter, the man behind of some of the biggest cult classics of all time including The Thing, They Live and Halloween, has expressed interest in bringing the Dead Space game series to the big screen.

The Dead Space franchise which extends beyond the Dead Space Trilogy into novels, comic books and animated feature films is seemingly ripe with movie making potential. Carpenter even went as far as comparing it to the Alien franchise but for a more contemporary audience:

“You know it’s great,” he explained. “The first game was more – I guess it was like Alien – but not quite. It was a little different than that.”

“I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff.”

“I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I’ll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made.”

Would you be interested in Dead Space film with Carpenter at the helm? Sound off in the comments!
